Planning a wedding is stressful. Planning a wedding on a budget… well, it can be overwhelming to say the least.
But we’re here to let you know that you can have the most beautiful wedding without breaking the bank.
For our San Diego wedding, we stuck to a strict budget, and we had an amazing evening. We followed each of the tips below and noticed no drawbacks among our guests.
We realized that guests will remember their experience (how they felt, the happiness of the couple, the speeches, etc.), and not so much the little details that the bridal party may have stressed about in the planning stage.
It CAN be done, and we’re here to let you know how.
Here’s a list of some helpful ways to save money on your wedding.
1. Rethink the Traditional Wedding Cake 🍰

The wedding cake often serves as a centerpiece, but it doesn't have to come with a hefty price tag. Consider these alternatives:
Sheet Cakes from Local Bakeries: Opt for a delicious sheet cake from a nearby bakery or grocery store. These cakes can be just as tasty and elegant when decorated to match your theme.
Cupcake Display: Arrange an assortment of cupcakes on tiered stands. This not only adds a charming touch but also allows guests to choose from various flavors.
Dessert Table Variety: Offer a selection of mini desserts, such as tarts, brownies, and cookies. This approach caters to diverse tastes and creates an inviting atmosphere.
Small Cutting Cake: Combine a modest-sized tiered cake for the ceremonial cutting with one of the above options for serving guests.
Nothing Bundt Cakes (See Above Photo): For our wedding, we ordered two larger cakes from Nothing Bundt Cakes to make a tiered cake, and then a few dozen of their bundlets (cupcakes). We chose a variety of flavors and people loved them!
By embracing these alternatives, you can reduce costs without sacrificing the sweet moments of your special day.
2. Embrace Digital Invitations 💌

Traditional paper invitations can be costly and often end up discarded. Maybe it’s time to modernize your approach with some digital invites!
Design Your Own Invitations: Utilize online platforms to create personalized invitations and print them at budget-friendly locations.
Virtual Invitations: Send invites via email or text, linking to your wedding website with all the essential details. This method is eco-friendly, cost-effective, and allows for easy updates.
Embracing digital invitations not only saves money but also streamlines the planning process. It can help you keep track of responses, enable people to provide their info, and more!
3. Opt for Artificial Flowers 💐
Floral arrangements add beauty but can be expensive and short-lived. Consider high-quality artificial flowers:
Silk Flowers: Modern silk flowers are remarkably realistic and photograph beautifully.
DIY Arrangements: Craft your bouquets and centerpieces ahead of time with family and friends, adding a personal touch.
Reusable Decor: After the wedding, these arrangements can be repurposed for home decor or resold, extending their value.
Artificial flowers offer a lasting and versatile alternative to fresh blooms. You can even save the ones you like most!
4. Choose Your Favorite Local Eateries for Catering 🍽️
Traditional wedding catering can be pricey. Instead, consider:
Local Restaurants: Many eateries offer catering services at a fraction of typical wedding caterer costs.
You know and love this place already (no guessing!)
You’ll have fond memories every time you go back.
Personal Touch: Serving your favorite dishes adds a unique and memorable element to your reception.
This approach not only supports local businesses but also ensures a menu you and your guests will love.
5. Prioritize What Matters Most ☑️
Every couple has unique priorities.
Reflect on what aspects are most important to you and allocate your budget accordingly. Remember, it's your day! Make choices that resonate with your vision and values.

Again, we relied on these tips for our own wedding and can attest that there were no negative drawbacks. Our wedding is still one of our most precious memories, and close friends and family share in that happiness.
